Data Insight: How Do You Learn To Cook New Meals?

So you think the cookbook is a relic of a bygone era? Hold on, now: as it turns out, Betty Crocker still has some life left in her.

We asked a thousand US consumers how they learn to cook new meals and, to our surprise, over half (55%) still use good old fashioned cookbooks.

That doesn’t mean lots of people don’t turn to the Internet when it comes to cooking education. Some 38% of our respondents saying they use online food site or blog to unleash their inner chef, with those aged 18-29 being the most likely to use online sites (49%) compared with just 24% for those 60 or older.

As for online video, 22% said they use online video sites like YouTube and, not surprisingly, younger respondents (18-29) are most likely to use this method at 33%.
