For most people, robots bring to mind greater efficiency.  Whether assembling cars, cleaning floors or harvesting apples, a robot is meant to do it all quicker and better.

It’s no different when it comes to food.  When I think of a foodbot, I assume there’ll be more burgers flipped, dishes cleaned and customers served.

But what if a robot could actually make food that tastes better?

It’s something I hadn’t given a whole lot of thought about until I heard Ali Bouzari, author of INGREDIENT: Unveiling the Essential Elements of Food, talk the idea about at a recent conference. Bouzari argued that the precision of a robot could create food in fast-service scenarios that would not normally be possible, including food that tastes different and better. And here’s the thing: it wasn’t just a theory. Bouzari had put this idea to the test when his firm, Pilot R&D, helped design the futuristic hamburger robot restaurant Creator.
