If you live in the US, chances are you haven’t gotten your hands on a Thermomix TM5. That’s because the latest generation of Vorwerk’s hugely popular multi cooker that has sold over 3 million units in Europe has only been available in the state of California as part of a limited test market rollout.

But that’s all about to change. Thermomix’s parent company Vorwerk plans to expand the product’s US footprint in 2017, first in New York and then to other markets. This expansion comes as the company rolls out its new connected recipe platform, the Cook-Key, which gives Thermomix users access to thousands of recipes that can automatically be downloaded and used as part of multicooker’s guided cooking system.

As CES in Las Vegas I caught up with the head of Thermomix’s North America, Kai Schaeffner, and Stefan Hilgers, who is head of product for the Thermomix.

I’ve been a fan of Thermomix since 2009 when it landed in my Canadian kitchen and I couldn’t let it go. So I for one am really pleased to see this super cook mixer/thermal blender launching into the US market. (I’m also excited to discover and subscribe to your podcast!) While both the history and future of this appliance are of interest, I’m sure people would also love to know what the Thermomix is capable of doing, and what sets it apart from other devices already on the market– it’s more than just the connectivity offered. Yes, as stated by the interviewees, it’s possible to connect to recipes in the cloud… but Thermomix offers a lot of powerful and unique features, too many to cover in this brief interview. You don’t need to be a techie, nor do you need to be a cook to use this appliance with impressive results. You’re timely interview is sure to pique the interest of smart foodies, and I hope you’ll delve deeper into the functionality of this super kitchen machine some time soon 🙂
