The Role
We are looking for a highly motivated Research Scientist (Animal Protein) with the expertise on culturing and optimizing protein expression and purification in attached animal cell-cultures. As part of the team, you will be responsible to design, execute and analyze experiments and play an active role in R&D activities and management.
Key Accountabilities
– Identify and implement leading technology to advance Jellatech’s cell-based protein production capability in R&D and manufacturing operations.
– Design and conduct experiments leading to the identification, development and implementation of new or improved animal cell culture and protein purification processes producing native or recombinant proteins.
– Optimize protein expression and protein purification processes.
– Establish project plans and accomplish established milestones.
– Evaluate and summarize data using analytical methodologies, interpreting results, drawing conclusions, and recommending options for future experiments to achieve project goals.
– Appropriately document experimental procedures and results according to established guidelines.
– Present scientific observations at internal technology reviews and to the broader scientific community at national meetings or through publication when appropriate.
– Submit ideas for inventions, innovations, through patent filings and trade secrets.
Skills & Experience
You have relevant experience in the field of animal cell culture, mammalian proteins, protein purification and are highly motivated to achieve the goals that are important for the company. You take initiative and enjoy working in an international and multidisciplinary team.
You meet the following professional requirements:
– PhD in a life or physical science with at least 3 years of relevant experience as a Research Scientist or similar. Industrial experience is a must.
– Formal training in one of the following main fields of study; Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Cell Biology, Microbiology, Molecular, Cellular & Development Biology, Cellular Physiology or Molecular Biology strongly preferred.
Experience in animal cell culture and optimization for enhanced target molecule expression preferred.
– Protein expression and purification experience.
– Expertise in using chemically defined media and performing studies to develop feeding and supplementation strategies to enhance target molecule expression would be beneficial.
– Protein purification experience (preferably larger, complex animal proteins)
– Knowledge of statistical analysis, and programming
– Experience presenting results of projects both internally & externally; present complex technical data to large and diverse groups required.
– Ability to train others on the theoretical and practical basis of techniques, processes and assays required.
– Familiar with project planning, process updates, & experimental design – Prepares & align impact goals with department goals required.
– Enjoys in a fast-paced work environment, bringing a proactive mentality and patient focus to the position.
