Job Overview
We are looking for a passionate Sr. backend Engineer to help shape and deliver the next evolution of the connected kitchen. As part of a small and accomplished team of experts, you will work on building out digital controls and a greenfield platform for kitchen devices while also building best-in-class user experiences. You should be comfortable working in an agile environment, contributing to innovative solutions while demonstrating maturity and collaborative ability, technical competence, and attention to detail.
Essential Responsibilities:
Create and integrate APIs, optimizing for performance and scale.
Manage and monitor AWS resources, including IoT, databases, lambda, and various other services.
Compile and analyze data, processes, and codes to troubleshoot problems and identify areas for improvement.
Create, integrate, optimize, and manage databases.
Collaborate with the front-end developers and other team members to establish objectives to design more functional and cohesive code, ultimately enhancing the user experience.
Minimum Qualifications
5+ years of experience writing production code
Demonstrated track record of building sophisticated, highly responsive backend services using modern frameworks.
Experience writing elegant, reusable, well-tested code, and the ability to strike the right balance between quality and rapid shipping/iteration.
Ability to design and implement features in a collaborative, agile team environment.
Communicate effectively across a range of science, engineering, and arts backgrounds. (At Breville, we work with mathematicians, mechanical and electrical engineers, firmware engineers, writers, videographers, and chefs.)
Ability to quickly assimilate whatever technologies are needed for a project.
Track record of eliminating obstacles and delivering a product that is better than originally envisioned.
Ability to self-direct and prioritize what tasks will produce the greatest customer impact.
Desired Qualifications
5+ years of experience building consumer facing production services.
Experience building production applications with TypeScript or JavaScript in Node.js.
Experience with AWS products like Lambda, S3, FreeRTOS, RDS, IoT, DynamoDB, API Gateway, and Cloudformation.
PostgreSQL or MySQL experience.
Experience working with connected Internet of Things (IoT) devices.
Experience with communication protocols, such as MQTT and Websocket.
